- I'm editor of New Hampshire Magazine. I grew up reading comic books, monster magazines, Edgar Rice Burroughs books and the stories of H.P. Lovecraft. Since then my tastes in literature have grown slightly more sophisticated, but I've retained a love for the genre-specific short story. The pulp magazines and various anthologies of my youth could immerse a reader into a fully realized world from which he or she would emerge carrying a broadsword or a pistol, possessing additional appendages or fresh gills, spouting arcane knowledge and adorned with kabbalistic tattoos. I'd like to prove that short stories still have this power and see if readers are still willing to be baptized in their mystical influence.
